Olive Hill Mayor resigns after drug arrest

OLIVE HILL, Ky. (WKYT) - A Kentucky mayor has resigned after being arrested on drug charges.

Police say Olive Hill mayor Danny Sparks sold marijuana to undercover officers with the FADE task force.

They then arrested Sparks at his home.

Police say this was part of an investigation that had been going on for weeks.

After his arrest Wednesday night, The Journal Times posted a letter of resignation from Sparks. It reads, in part:

"Due to a very bad mistake that I have made... I have decided with deep regret to resign tonight as mayor of Olive Hill. What happen(ed) tonight is something I have never done before and deeply regret it and hope to move on."

Sparks is charged with drug trafficking within 1,000 feet of a school.
