SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Officials in Magoffin County say a man is dead following a shooting Monday afternoon.

The Deputy Coroner says the victim, 49-year-old Donnie Allen, was found shot to death outside his home on Route 40 in Salyersville Monday afternoon. Police have a suspect in custody and have charged that person with murder, but their name has not yet been released.

The Coroner says Allen died at the scene from a point blank gunshot wound to the chest. Allen had been outside the home for several hours before the suspect called his wife, who then called 911 to report the shooting. The Coroner says there appears to have been some type of altercation between Allen and the suspect, who is believed to be a friend of the victim, before the shooting took place.

Allen's body is being sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
