Letcher County murder victim identified, two people charged

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - Two men now faces charges in connection to a deadly stabbing in eastern Kentucky.

State police say Michael Shane Hogg, 25, died after he was stabbed during a fight around 2 a.m. Wednesday on Hayes Street in Whitesburg.

State police have charged James R. Huffman, 24, of Pikeville with murder and assault. Patrick Smith, 27, of Lexington, was charged with tampering with physical evidence and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Two other people were injured in the fight. David Christopher Puckett, 23, was flown to a hospital for his injuries. His condition is unknown at this time. Stacy Phillips, 23, was treated and released at a local hospital. Another woman involved in the fight was not injured.

Both Huffman and Smith are being held in the Letcher County Detention Center.
