Driver charged in deadly Georgetown crash

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - One man is dead and another is in jail after a single-car fatal accident that occurred early Sunday morning near Georgetown.

The passenger of the car Roger Daniels, 47, of Georgetown, was transported to Georgetown Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Scott County Coroner John Goble.

Goble says Daniels was a passenger in the car and died from blunt force trauma.

Police say the car he was riding in hit a guardrail along I-75 at the 123 mile marker. Daniels was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

We are told Daniels was an employee at the University of Kentucky and Good Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are being made for Daniels at Hicks Funeral Home in Monticello.

Initial reports say that alcohol and speed are both considered factors.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Frankie Lazarin, also of Georgetown. Lazarin was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI. He is currently being lodged at the Scott County Detention Center.

Georgetown Police Captain Robert Swanigan tells WKYT that the incident is still under investigation and that they will be working closely with Commonwealth Attorney Gordon Shaw to look into pursuing other charges against Lazarin.
