General showers will be the main action over the next few hours. A few could remain on the strong to severe side in eastern parts of Kentucky.
VERSAILLES, Ky. (WKYT) - A temporary fence now lines Grassy Springs Road, in the same place where a wooden-plank fence was torn down after an SUV went crashing through it around 4 a.m. Sunday.
"The vehicle was probably 75 to 100 feet out in the field, she probably took maybe 75 to 100 feet of plank fence out," described Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens, who was called to the scene after 38-year-old Maria Ochoa was found dead in the driver's seat.
Owens said Ochoa was traveling home from a party in Millville with her husband and daughter.
"She was probably two tenths of a mile, I'm just guessing, from the house. She came around the curve and dropped off the edge of the road and went through the plank fence, and one of the plank boards impaled the driver."
The coroner explained why a crash into a plank fence, like this, can be so dangerous, "Those boards, when they break, they're like arrows coming through the vehicle."
The husband and daughter had a few minor injuries, according to Owens, and they were treated and released from a Frankfort hospital. Maria Ochoa was pronounced dead at the scene just before 5 a.m. The cause of death is blunt force trauma.
"You'd hate for any child to see anything like that, especially with her parents. Such a sad case," said Owens.
The investigation will continue, as police try to find out why the SUV left the roadway. Owens said he is waiting for results of a toxicology.
