One injured in shooting during fan celebrations

Lexington Police say violence among fans led to a shooting early Tuesday.

It happened near campus on South Limestone at Virginia Avenue.

Police say around two Tuesday morning officer's working that area of Limestone heard gunfire and observed multiple subjects running into the crowd.

They located a victim, identified as Harold Calloway, 31, lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot. Officers attempted to locate the shooter in the area and utilized Canine, however, were unsuccessful.

Friends of Calloway who were with him at the time of the shooting said they were in town from Louisville for the celebration. They were in a vehicle and had stopped to talk to some girls who were standing in the crowd on the sidewalk. The shooter began a verbal altercation with them. When they exited the vehicle to continue the altercation, the suspect produced a firearm and fired multiple shots.

One shot struck the victim and multiple rounds went into the vehicle. The victim was transported to UK Medical Center ER where his foot was ultimately amputated.

Robbery Homicide were notified and responded. According to police Calloway is not cooperating with investigators and has outstanding felony warrants from out of state.
