Very slow moving showers and thunderstorms will move into our area overnight and Sunday. The potential for flooding will be heightened in southern and eastern Kentucky.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - An overturned semi shut down part of an I-75 on ramp and kept crews busy for a several hours Saturday morning.
It happened just after 8:00 a.m. at the southbound on-ramp onto I-75 off New Circle Road. Police say the driver of this semi was traveling too fast on the ramp and hit the median, which caused it to flip.
The tractor trailer was carrying about 42,000 pounds of aluminum coils. Crews spent about an hour offloading those before they could get the truck back on its wheels.
Police say what ended up shutting down this ramp for a few hours could have actually turned out much worse.
"I can't say for certain he was speeding right now," says Officer Mark Thomas, Lexington Police Department. "Just upon preliminary evaluation it appears as though he did come around this too quickly. If there had been a car coming up this side at the same time, he could've overturned directly onto that other vehicle. We're just lucky that didn't happen in this case."
The driver of the semi was transported to the hospital with only minor injuries.
