LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky may be on the verge of adding to its assortment of area codes.
The state Public Service Commission says it's set to announce a decision later Monday on whether to create a new area code for western Kentucky. The ever-growing use of cell phones has resulted in nearly all the numbers available in the 270 area code being taken.
Any new area code for the region has already been designated as 364.
The PSC has been reviewing whether to assign the new area code to all new phone customers throughout western Kentucky. Another option is to apply the new area code to a portion of the region.
