PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - A McCracken County deputy says a driver's quick response to a crash that he saw happen may have saved a woman's life.
Laura Willis of Mayfield was involved in a crash that flipped her minivan Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff's Capt. Jared Rivera told The Paducah Sun the 58-year-old Willis' arm swung outside the van and was trapped under the roof. The van slid, upside down, severing her arm.
Rivera said 60-year-old Wayne Beyer of Paducah stopped his car and used his belt as a tourniquet to slow the flow of blood from Willis' injury until police arrived.
Willis was taken to Lourdes Hospital and then transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., where she had surgery. Two other drivers weren't hurt.
