Kentucky's senator-elect spent this 1st Sunday after elections talking about his agenda for Washington, DC.
Rand Paul appeared on ABC's This Week to discuss his plans to reduce government spending.
The tea party favorites says Democrats typically want to cut the military, while Republicans focus on cuts to domestic spending. But to reduce America's debt, Paul says lawmakers on both sides need to look at all government spending.
Paul said, "The one thing about the tea party that's interesting is, it really is equal parts chastisement to both parties. You know, Republicans doubled the debt when we were in charge, and then Democrats are tripling the debt. And i've said this over and over again. It's not about political party, but it is about fiscally trying to do something to balance our budget."
Paul also talked about his support for a constitutional amendment requiring lawmakers to balance the budget.
