People seeking tips to keep yards healthy in drought

Updated: Tue 8:24 PM, Jul 03, 2012

At Kings Nursery, the fans are blowing and the sprinklers are running in efforts to keep plants healthy and alive. People are coming by asking for advice on how to keep their plants and yards healthy with the lack of rain and hot weather.

Russ Beckham is a manager at the nursery. He says prioritizing and proper watering are key to preserving your plants.

"Concentrate on plants planted within the last year. Then move to perennials and newly planted trees and bushes. The right way to water is slow and deep," said Beckham. "Just taking the hose and running it over the plants, that is very inefficient."
