Pieces of historic horse farm up for sale

Updated: Wed 7:39 PM, Aug 08, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - This Friday and Saturday you have a chance to purchase a piece of Kentucky history.

A sale will offer up hundreds of items from Calumet Farm, a Kentucky staple that has a record history of Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown winners. "Buy something that belong to Calumet, well now you have a piece of history in your house," explains Ann Greely, the owner of Ann Greely Interior and Antiques. "We decided why not offer up some of these items to people who truly appreciate and enjoy the history of Calumet Farms."

The estate sale will begin on Friday at 9:00 AM at Ann Greely Interiors and Antiques of East Main. "It's exciting, people will be able to own a piece of history as well as some great one-of-a-kind pieces."

This past spring the Henryk de Kwiatkowski Trust, which owned Calumet Farm, sold the property to Brad Kelley. "We're pricing everything pretty low so we can sell things since they do not own the property anymore and everything needs to go. There will be roughly 225 lot items ranging from antiques, upholstered furniture, art prints, crystals linen, rugs and more. We've also sent 100 items to Christie's in New York to be auctioned off in December."

All the items came from the main house, a guest house and a log cabin on the Calumet property. "The house was decorated in 1992-93 by the world famous Parish-Hadley designer firm," explains Greely. "There are a lot of signature Parish touches as well as other unique items that reflect the house. There is even a set of Vanity Fair polo caricatures from the turn of the century. Lots of great items to be had."

Sister Parish is well known for her designs as well as redoing rooms at the White House for Jacqueline Kennedy. "She's a very influential designer and a huge part of the beauty that is Calumet Farm."

The estate sale goes from 9:00-4:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Ann Greely Interiors and Antiques is located at 497 East Main Street. There will be limited parking at the location but there are nearby lots that are available as well.
