PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - September is "Recovery Awareness Month" and one county judge executive signed a proclamation to honor many eastern Kentuckians who have triumphed through the process.

Westcare, Operation UNITE and the Pike County Judge Executive worked to put together a walk to pay tribute to those in the mountains who have battled addiction and made it through the recovery journey.

"This is to honor these folks and their family who have overcome this dreaded, dreaded disease and i call it a disease because once you get in that trap, you do have an addictive problem," said Wayne T. Rutherford, Pike County Judge Executive.

The recovery walk is scheduled for Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Main Street Plaza of the exposition center.
