A wintry mix has created dangerous driving conditions in Pike County. County officials say the rain and ice started falling mid-morning on Friday and created slick roads throughout the county.

According to Pike County Road Commissioner Frank Hatcher, county and state crews are laying down salt. As of noon Friday Hatcher said the main roads were passable, but slick.

Pike County Emergency Services Coordinator Doug Tackett said more freezing rain than snow was falling. He asked residents to avoid traveling except in the case of emergency. Temperatures in the area are expected to be in the mid-20s overnight.
