Pilot injured in crash at Middlesboro-Bell County Airport

Middlesboro Police say a small plane crashed near the city


MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WKYT) - Middlesboro Police say a small plane crashed near the city's airport on Friday at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The crash involved a Beech-Bonanza V-35B.

We're told a man from Texas had just bought the plane and was doing takeoffs and landings when he crashed at the end of the runway. The plane caught fire after the crash.

The pilot was taken to University Of Tennessee Hospital with serious injuries. He was then transferred to the Vanderbilt Burn Center.

When help arrived, he was conscious and able to talk to responders at the scene.

His name has not yet been released.

The airport has been closed since 1:00 p.m. on Friday and will not reopen until the Federal Aviation Administration has investigated the crash.
