Updated: Mon 11:45 PM, Jan 07, 2013

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A pilot was able to walk away from his small plane, after he made an emergency crash landing on an eastern Kentucky road Monday afternoon.

It happened along Highway 66 in the Big Creek area of Clay County around 5:30 p.m.

Emergency crews say 65-year-old David Styer, of Ohio, was on his way to Middlesboro, but his plane ran out of fuel.

As he prepared to land on the road, he noticed some people walking on it.

"He veered to the right to avoid striking one of those pedestrians, and he clipped a guide wire with the wing of his plane," said Trooper Nick Metcalf, of Kentucky State Police.

Emergency crews say when they arrived, the pilot was walking around, and was not hurt.

We're told he was the only person on the plane. Crews had the plane moved, and the road reopened within a couple of hours.
