RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Eastern Kentucky University issued an alert Thursday afternoon because of the escape of Daniel Patterson.
Estill County Jail officials told WKYT that Daniel Patterson dashed away from them as they were taking him into the jail before a scheduled court hearing on Wednesday.
Daniel Patterson was set to appear in court for a domestic violence order his wife requested.
EKU officials issued the alert because she is part of the campus community.
Police believe Patterson could be driving a black Dodge Dakota pickup with a red pin stripe. Investigators believe he stole it after his escape. While they don't believe he is near campus at this time, they do want summer students to stay on alert.
"We always do patrols throughout the year. Whether we're in session, or we're in summer school or waiting for the new fall semester to begin. Our police are always very vigilant," explains Eastern Kentucky University's Marc Whitt.
Whitt is asking students to call Kentucky State Police if they see Patterson.
Patterson is from Barbourville. His wife will remain in hiding until he can be caught.
