Police: Intoxicated driver nearly hits Lexington home

Shavanna Faulkner is in the Fayette County Detention Center.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police and firefighters were called to a home on Cooper Drive, around five Thursday morning, for a report of a car into a home.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a car that was on fire, but the home had not been hit.

Police tell WKYT that the car struck a pole at the intersection of Andover Drive and Cooper Drive. It then went through some yards and ended up nearly hitting a house. The car then caught fire.

Taylor Bagley lives in the home nearly hit, and described what he heard. He said he didn't think anything of it at first.
"It started off as a thud. That was obviously her hitting the street light and knocking it over, followed by just a screech that was very long, unusually long," Bagley said.

Bagley said once he did go outside, he was surprised by what he saw.
"Oh, there's a car in my lawn. That's weird."

A woman who was driving the car was taken away by police. Police believe she was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Shavanna Faulkner is in the Fayette County Detention Center. She is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence and trafficking a controlled substance.

The damaged car was a rental.
