Police: Grant County man kills estranged wife and man

DRY RIDGE, Ky. (AP) - Police say a northern Kentucky man has shot his estranged wife and another man before shooting and injuring himself.

Grant County Sheriff Chuck Dills says Shaun E. Hiles, 35, confessed to killing Nicole Hiles, 35, and Larry G. Whiteker, 32, Monday night on Mulligan Road in a rural area near Dry Ridge.

Dills said Shaun Hiles was angry because he believed his estranged wife was dating Whiteker. Dill said Hiles followed the two in his SUV before crashing into them, then shot and killed both before shooting himself.

Hiles was airlifted to U.C. Medical Center. He is out of surgery and listed in critical condition. He'll face two counts of murder when he's released from the hospital.

Monday afternoon Nicole Hiles had talked to Sheriff Dills about being harassed on social media and being stalked by Shaun. She also told them he had damaged her car.

"She has been trying to get away from him. She had contacted the Grant County Sheriff department during business hours wanting to obtain an emergency protective order and to the best of our knowledge she went to the court house to obtain an emergency protective order and was in the process of getting it signed by a judge," said Sheriff Dills.

The Hiles were reportedly separated and Nicole had moved out about a week ago. She had asked for a law enforcement escort to get more clothes and items out of their home.
