Police: Man found in burned car killed self

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says that a man, found dead inside a burning car, likely killed himself.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that an autopsy was
conducted on the victim, Neil Spitzer, on Friday in Frankfort. The preliminary report indicates Spitzer died from a gunshot wound.

Based on evidence recovered at the scene, investigators say that the victim set fire to the duplex he lived in, then set fire to the car he was sitting in and died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Police were called to Spitzer's home on Thursday after a meter reader reported an explosion.

A pistol was recovered in the burned out vehicle.
