Police: Man kidnapped woman at gun point, sexually assaulted her

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is in jail Monday after police say he kidnapped a woman at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her.

Police arrested 48-year-old Ricky N. North of Echo Valley Road. North has been charged with kidnapping, second degree rape and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Laurel sheriff's office received a complaint early Monday morning of a woman screaming for help on Echo Valley Road, 7 miles south of London.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found a 28-year-old female victim trying to hide from her male attacker.

Deputies learned that she had allegedly been kidnapped at gun point from a residence on US-25 and driven to a residence on Echo Valley Road where she was sexually assaulted.

Officers say the victim was not hat her home when she was kidnapped. She was at someone else's home.

She was able to flee out of the residence, and hid in a camper nearby.

Her attacker was found in the woods, apparently trying to locate her.

A shotgun was recovered at the scene.

Police say the accused and the victim did not know each other.

According to Dept. of Corrections North was convicted in 1987 on 5 various charges, including possession of stolen property, burglary & theft. All the charges were out of Laurel County.

He received a 15 year prison sentence. North was paroled in 1990 and was discharged from parole in 1997.

Officers say the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected in this case.

North is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center.
