Police say homeowner returned fire, injuring alleged intruder

KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - Kentucky State Police are investigating after they say a homeowner returned fire on a man breaking into his home.

It happened just before 2am Saturday morning at a residence in the Pippa Passes community of Knott County.

State Police say Clyde Thomas forced his way into the residence, breaking open a glass door, before firing several shots. They say the homeowner returned fire, hitting Thomas several times.

Thomas was transported to Hazard ARH Hospital and was later flown out to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Police say the homeowner, as well as Clyde Thomas' wife and daughter, were also home at the time, were uninjured.

Kentucky State Police are still investigating the incident and criminal charges are pending at this time.
