Police: Shooting victim in Lexington park dies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A shooting investigation at Lexington's Duncan Park is now a murder investigation after the death of the 21-year-old man who was shot Sunday.

Lexington Police say Antonio Franklin, Jr., died Monday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. An autopsy will be preformed later this week on Franklin.

Police already planned to step up patrols in the Duncan Park neighborhood after Franklin was shot in the head in the crowded park.

Investigators say don't know if Franklin was the shooters intended target.

It's was the third shooting in Lexington in two days.

Saturday night a man was shot in the shoulder and the leg near a birthday party on Versailles Road.

Police say they saw an uptick in violence, especially at Duncan Park, when things started warming up this time last year.

Jeffrey White, the director of The Nest, the daycare that sits next to the park, is worried about the violence.

"I was surprised to hear of it, it's concerning that they still haven't found the shooters, that's actually very scary," said White.

Police say they are checking nearby businesses for surveillance video that could help lead them to their suspects.

Police are searching for four to five men who were seen leaving the park in a dark purple or black Pontiac Grand Am.
