LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police think a thief dumped a stolen car in a pond that sits in the Firebrook subdivision.

Police say they got the call this morning about a car in a pond off Harrodsburg Road.

Police tell WKYT they got the call to the Firebrook subdivision, off Harrodsburg Road, just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found a Toyota in the pond with its back hatch open. A dive team quickly searched the pond to make sure no one was inside. Once the scene was cleared, emergency officials attempted to take the submerged car out of the pond.

"After running the license plate numbers, police discovered that the car was stolen from a neighborhood off Mason-Headley Road," explains Lt. Mark Brand with the Lexington Police Department. "The owner woke up this morning to find her car gone. Thankfully, she is okay but an investigation into the theft has begun."

Police are still looking for the suspect or suspects involved.
