Police: Teen arrested at airport claims to be Ky. Senator Rand Paul's son

CHARLOTTE, NC (WKYT) -- A teen who claims to be the son of a U.S. Senator, and grandson of a former presidential candidate was arrested Saturday night at Charlotte Douglas International airport.

William Hilton Paul, 19, was taken and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail around 11:30 p.m.

According to WBTV in Charlotte, N.C., Paul told officials at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office say he identified himself as the son of Kentucky Senator Rand Paul. Will's grandfather, Ron Paul, is a former presidential candidate.

Paul was charged, according to information on the Mecklenburg County Jail website, with disorderly conduct and being Intoxicated and disruptive.

The Communications Director from Rand Paul's staff, Moira Bagley, released this statement to WKYT.

"The Senator is currently traveling and I am unable to confirm this information with him. Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this."

Paul is a student at the University of Kentucky, and listed his address in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
