GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Georgetown police are investigating five different robberies that have gone unsolved over the past month, four of which may be connected.

"It's unfortunate, but every year about this time as it gets a little closer to the holidays, we see a spike in robberies and crimes of this nature," says Capt. Robert Swanigan, Georgetown Police Department.

The latest in this rash of robberies happened Wednesday night at the Shell gas station on East Main Street. Police say around 11:45 p.m., a man walked into the store wearing some type of clothing covering his face.

According to police, the man had a knife. He went behind the counter, took all of the money out of the cash register and ran out of the store.

Surveillance video shows the clerk and a customer were inside of the store when this all happened. Neither of them were hurt.

Police say the man only got away with a small amount of cash, but this isn't the first time they've seen this suspect.

Two other robberies happened in Georgetown on Monday. One at a CVS, the other at a Quick Mart. Last week, there was also a robbery at another Shell gas station in town.

In all four of these crimes, police say the suspect had a similar description.

"There are some similarities between the [robberies] with the clothing that was worn," Capt. Swanigan explains. "So, we're going to explore that further."

There was also another robbery at Burger King in Georgetown in October, but police don't believe it's connected with the four most recent crimes.

If you have information about any of these robberies, give the Georgetown Police Department a call.
