Police find gunshot victim near busy Lexington road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are investigating an early morning shooting in Lexington. The call came in to dispatchers around four o'clock on Monday morning.

Officers found the victim on Versailles Road, near Heartsbrook Lane. He told police that the shooting happened at the nearby Westminster Village Apartments.

The victim was taken to UK Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police shut down inbound Versailles Road for a short time while a K-9 unit retraced the victim's path. The road is now back open.

Investigators interviewed several people inside the Westminster Village apartment.

A short time after the incident, police arrested a man and led him out of his apartment. A Lexington Police spokesman told us the suspect is charged with tampering with physical evidence. They say he hid a firearm, believed to be the one used in the shooting.

Update 11:24 AM -- The man police took into custody for tampering with physical evidence has been charged with the shooting.
