RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say first responders were called to a home on Dixie Plaza Saturday morning to a man who was unresponsive. When they got there, though, police say they found a lot more than that.
"Suspected crack cocaine and we're not really sure what was in the vials or syringes," said Major Bob Mott of the Richmond Police Department.
Police say it appears the man overdosed. He was pronounced dead. Also in that room, police say, were Kristen Johnson, her two young children, and drugs. They say there was five-year-old on the floor sleeping next to the dead man and near cocaine, a used syringe, and a crack pipe, and a three-year-old sleeping in the bed right next to some cocaine.
"You know, that's dangerous for that baby to get up if they get ahold of that needle and get ahold of that drugs and stuff. It could kill that baby. That's a shame," said Daniel Schneider, a neighbor.
The woman who lives in the home said she didn't really know Johnson or the man who died. She said they were traveling with one of her family members who she let stay overnight.
Police arrested Johnson and charged her with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and wanton endangerment. Social workers sent the children to stay in a safe place.
