Police in Laurel Co. discover meth lab during traffic stop

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - On Monday, January 14, 2013 at approximately 11:45 PM, Kentucky State Police Sergeant Steve Walker conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt passenger vehicle for disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of KY Highway 312 and KY Highway 363.

Upon making contact with the operator of the vehicle, Joshua Hays, 30, of Keavy, KY, Sergeant Walker determined Hays was operating the vehicle while under the influence of a substance that impaired his driving ability and placed him under arrest.

During the traffic stop Sergeant Walker had observed a strong chemical odor omitting from inside the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the discovery of one completed Methamphetamine lab, chemicals and items used in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine (Salts, Lithium Batteries, Drain Cleaner), finished Methamphetamine product (1 gram), Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested Joshua Hays, 30, of Keavy, KY. Hays i s charged with
DUI, disregarding a stop sign, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacturing methamphetamine.

Two passengers, identified as Michael Cunigan, 24, of Annville, KY and Skye Stewart, 21, of McKee, KY were also arrested and charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine.
