Police investigate Lexington home invasion

Updated: Fri 1:11 PM, Dec 28, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are investigating an early morning home invasion at an apartment complex.

Officials said someone broke into an apartment at Gatehouse Apartments off Liberty Road and took a purse and a vehicle belonging to a woman inside the apartment.

Police responded around 5 a.m. Thursday. Officials said a man came home and noticed his wife's car was missing. He told police that when he tried to enter his apartment, someone was on the other side of the door, pushing back. That person was able to escape through a window, police said.

"Went to open the door and someone slammed it shut and locked it. I unlocked the door and pushed it open, by then they were already out the window," said Allen Adams, who lives in the apartment.

The woman inside the apartment at the time of the break-in was not harmed.

Police were able to recover the purse, but the wallet had been removed.

The car has not been found. Police are searching for a gray 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse with Kentucky plates 903MXB.
