General showers will be the main action over the next few hours. A few could remain on the strong to severe side in eastern parts of Kentucky.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - An accident involving a car and a pedestrian shut down a downtown Lexington road for a few hours Wednesday morning.
It happened around 6:00 a.m. on North Broadway. Police say a car hit a man while he was crossing the street. That man was rushed to UK Hospital with what police describe as "life-threatening" injuries.
It was raining hard when the accident happened and the area around the scene was very dark at the time. Because of that, police do not believe any charges will be filed against the driver.
The road between Fifth and Sixth streets was shut down for more than two hours while reconstruction units were on scene.
"Obviously with the dark street behind us and rainy conditions it’s difficult to see, but obviously there's no crosswalk there," says Lt. Mark Brand, Lexington Police Department. "Just a tragic accident."
Broadway reopened around 8:30 Wednesday morning.
Police have not yet released the victim's name and condition.
