Lexington Police arrest victims in home invasion

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are trying to piece together exactly what happened at a house off White Oak Trace early this morning.

We're told by police that three armed men busted into the house, bound two adults, brutally assaulted one of them, made demands, and then fled.

"There was juvenile inside during the invasion," explains Sergeant Pete Ford, with the Lexington Police Department, "that is what really concerns us. The extreme level of violence and the disregard that a child was inside the house."

Police are calling this a bizarre investigation.

"We have been in and out of the residence all morning trying to piece together the information that we find."

Early this morning a man was transferred from St Joesph's hospital in Lexington to UK hospital with severe head injuries and burn marks to his legs and groin.

Police tell us when they came to the victim's house to investigate, they determined a home invasion had occurred.

After searching the home, the victims were both arrested. Police charged 23-year-old Manee Shepard with trafficking both marijuana and cocaine. 27-year-old Marques Dawson was also charged with trafficking marijuana and cocaine as well as for outstanding warrants.

Police say Dawson's burn injuries were caused by a hot iron. He is still recovering in the hospital. Shepard was booked in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Officers are still trying to identify the three masked men.
