WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Versailles police say a Woodford County man is charged with murdering his younger brother.
They say Vernon Saunders, 56, dragged Timmothy Saunders, his 51-year-old brother, behind a vehicle a mile and a half down a highway.
An autopsy report released Monday shows he was dead before being dragged a mile and a half down a highway. The autopsy confirms he was shot multiple times.
Versailles police say someone who was driving on Troy Pike about 6:30 a.m. Sunday spotted the man's body on the side of the road. Investigators say they searched the road for answers until it took them to the home on Troy Pike that Timmothy Saunders was dragged from.
Police say three hours after calling in a SWAT team and sending a robot into the home, Vernon Saunders came out unarmed. He was arrested and charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and the abuse of a corpse.
They say Timmothy Saunders is from Florida, and he was passing through the area for a visit.
We looked up both Vernon and Timmothy Saunders and couldn't find any prior arrests. Both have clean records in Woodford County.
Clark Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Vernon Saunders answered to the charges in court on Monday morning, pleading not guilty.
