BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A standoff in Breathitt County has come to an end.
It began around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Broadway Spur Street.
Jackson City Police responded to a call there, but when they knocked on the door, nobody responded.
We're told officers then heard gunshots as they drove away, so they returned to the home and called for backup.
"Some of the responding officers thought they might have seen a subject near a window," said Jody Sims with Kentucky State Police. "They knocked on doors, announced, PA'ed, but they have since not had any response or any contact with anyone inside the residence."
A Kentucky State Police Special Response Team is on the scene and executing a search warrant that was signed by a judge.
People say the scene is surreal.
"When I get here, I get a big surprise," said Brandon Woolum. "You wouldn't think it right here in Jackson."
"It is a shock. It is really a shock. Let's be honest," said Oran Roberts.
