LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police quickly captured a Blackburn Correctional inmate thanks to some alert, off duty jailers.

Blackburn staff noticed Richard Roland was missing at 1:20am Thursday morning. The search to find him didn’t last very long.

Not even an hour after Roland was reported missing, he was spotted by two off duty jailers walking through the parking lot of Rose and Jim’s bar on Georgetown Road.

Officers used K-9 units to help chase down Roland. He was taken to the hospital and treated for an injury he received from a police dog.

Roland was serving a seven year sentence at Blackburn Correctional for burglary, possession of a handgun by a felon, and promoting contraband. He’s now facing an escape charge as well. Blackburn officials say he would have been eligible for parole in March 2014.

Roland is now being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
