Police say teen was abandoned by attacker after rape

MANCHESTER, Ky (WKYT) - Thomas Allen Martin faces a very serious charge of rape first degree. This after police say he forcibly raped a 17-year-old girl and then left her laying in a field.

Police say Martin met the victim for the first time Saturday night, during a local festival. The two then went to a party at a relative’s house.

“Where things apparently got a little out of hand there. Then at some point in time, him and her loaded up in his vehicle where they went to a field,” said Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson. The alleged violence happened in an area known as Burning Springs, about 8 miles north of Manchester.

That’s where police say the 22 year old raped and attacked the teenager. Her injuries were severe enough to require her to be airlifted to the hospital.

“Bruising and marks that the victim obtained during the rape,” said Johnson.

Court records say the crime happened about 4 o’clock Sunday morning. Police say Martin left the girl, who went looking for help on her own.

“(She was) knocking on doors, trying to gain access to get help, with nothing on but a shirt,” Johnson said.

Police say she was taken to the hospital but the condition of her injuries isn’t known.

As of Thursday morning, Martin remained in the Clay County jail. He said he didn’t want to talk to a reporter about the charges against him.
