Police search for jewelry thief in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are hoping the public can help them find a thief who stole a diamond ring from a jewelry store Saturday afternoon. They haven't identified the suspect, but they do have surveillance video.

Just after 1p.m. a man walked into Diamond Masters on North Locust Hill Drive and asked to look at several rings.

"He was able to distract the person that was working with him and pocket the ring, " said Lt. Chris Van Brackel with Lexington Police.

The man then told the clerk he had to step outside.

"After he had stepped outside they realized the ring was missing," Van Brackel said.

Dispatchers were told the ring was worth tens of thousands of dollars but police would only confirm that it was a high value diamond ring.

They're hoping someone saw the man leaving the area in a hurry. They believe he may have been heading toward Richmond road.

"Maybe they'll be able to call and say 'I saw him get into this car, I saw him run to here,'" said Van Brackel.
