LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police and fire crews spent Friday morning searching a Lexington pond for evidence in the case against a man they arrested Thursday during a chase.
Dive team members from the Lexington Fire Department had even brought a metal detector to try and help them sift through all the algae and find a gun.
In the Center Parkway area Thursday, a foot chase took place.
We're told by police that 18-year-old Datwan Davis was trespassing at a nearby Marathon gas station.
"The officer got out to talk to him about trespassing on the property and there was a foot chase," Lt. Chris Van Brackel told WKYT.
"At the end of that foot chase the suspect pulled out a gun and threw it into the retention pond."
That pond is behind the Gainesway Park apartments and Tates Creek High School. Since the pond is in a park with lots of children around, police aren't taking any chances.
"Our concern is that someone else will find the gun. This is an area with a lot of children so we don't want a situation where a child would find a gun and then hurt themselves. We want to make sure we can get it secured," said Van Brackel.
Davis was arrested for trespassing, fleeing and evading police, carrying concealed deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of marijuana.
