Police share crowd suppression tactics with Rotarians

Updated: Thu 8:27 PM, Aug 30, 2012

LEXINGTON (WKYT) - The looks said it all as Rotary members watched video and pictures from the final two games of the UK Men's Basketball championship run.

"We hadn't been through a championship since 1998. A lot has changed in our community since then. And in 1998, an overwhelming portion of the crowd was at Woodland and Euclid," said Lexington Police Chief Ronnie Bastin.

An infared aerial view of several areas neighboring UK showed the masses of people partaking in the celebration.
Despite a rough Saturday night final four game against Louisville, police say their efforts to prevent the same reckless activity paid off during the championship game.

Lexington Police say one tactic they plan on using again is monitoring social media to track the movement of the crowds.
