Police still searching for man who shot officer

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A man who police say shot a police officer is still on the run tonight.

It happened Friday night on Maple Leaf Lane in Nicholasville.

The officer, John Rainey was saved when his ballistic vest stopped the bullet, aimed at his chest.

Rainey saw the man walking behind some homes, and stopped to make contact with him, when he was shot.

Lexington police used their helicopter to search for the shooter, but he's still on the run.

Rainey was taken to the hospital, but has since been taken home.
