Police targeting speeders on busy Lexington road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - If you're right foot tends to be a little heavy when you're behind the wheel, police say you might want to pump the brakes this week.

Lexington police say they're beefing up enforcement along a busy Lexington road in order to crack down on speeders. Police have put up electric speed limit signs on parts of New Circle Road, letting drivers know just how fast they're going.

Police say they hope the signs will serve as a warning, before they are forced to take harder measures.

"When you speed, you will notice lights flashing at you, telling you to slow down a little bit more," explains Officer Alvin Cook, with Lexington Police. "If you don't slow down next week, you'll probably get that citation."

Already this year, police say they've noticed an increase in the number of crashes, and speeding drivers, on New Circle.
