Police: three charged for buying EBT cards, selling food bought with them

Lexington Police have arrested three people on charges of welfare fraud.

They say Mohammad Ryyal was working at a Lexington Marathon station and would buy EBT cards for half their value, ringing up fake transactions for groceries, then give the card to his brother, Thaer Ryyal, to buy supplies for his gas station in Richmond. They say Cossondra Freeman was running a similar scheme at her store on Ohio Street.

Police arrested all three and charged them with welfare fraud. All three have pleaded not guilty.
