LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police held a news conference on Thursday afternoon to discuss the case against two Lexington brothers. Jack and Jerry Cassidy are charged with possessing or viewing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. Police arrested them after responding to assist the fire department for a medical call at a home on Mason Headley Road last week. According to court documents, police found child pornography throughout the home.

It's unusual for Lexington police to go on camera in a situation where their special victims unit is involved, but they said they felt it was necessary to get information out to the public. They say since this story broke, they've heard from more witnesses and victims. Police Chief Ronnie Bastin said investigators believe Jerry and Jack Cassidy abused children for more than twenty years, from 1963 to 1985. They believe the alleged victims were between 8 and 15-years-old.

"Some have put the events behind them, but undoubtedly, there are those who still struggle with these crimes that have been hidden in the past," says Chief Bastin.

Both law enforcement and victims' advocates emphasized there is help available to anyone who needs it, regardless of whether or not they want to go to police.

"As we uncover the likely painful, hidden past related to this case, we want to make sure it is done in such a way that does not cause the victims additional, undue pain," says Chief Bastin.

In addition to possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, the Cassidys are charged with indecent or immoral acts with another. The charge reflects Kentucky law as it was in the 1970s. Both Jack and Jerry Cassidy have turned down interview requests from WKYT. They pleaded not guilty to the charge of possessing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.
