Ky. National Guardsman receives Purple Heart

It's a medal presented to only a handful of men and women. Now, a Kentucky National Guardsman is one of them.

Staff Sgt. Chris Eden received a Purple Heart Saturday.

Eden, who's also a Lexington Police officer, was injured last week in an explosion in Afghanistan.

He is now recovering at UK Hospital, where military officials awarded him the honor.

"It's hard for me not to get choked up when you do something like that because you never want to have to ever give a Purple Heart but that's the ultimate award that you can give somebody who basically puts themselves in harm's way," said Major General Edward Tonini.

Eden's family, friends and several Lexington Police officers were there for the ceremony.
