A homicide investigation is underway, after a man is found shot to death inside an apartment.

The shooting happened a little after 2 a.m. Monday on Dinsmore Drive, off Fontaine Road.

Lexington police say the victim is a 33-year-old male. Investigators say a group of men forced their way into the apartment where it appears gunfire between the group and the victim was exchanged. Police say the victim was shot several times in the neck and chest and died at the scene.

Police say there were no witnesses to the shooting, but say there may be a possible witness who saw the gunmen leave the scene in a vehicle. At this time, police have a vague description from witnesses of four men running from the scene and driving away in a silver SUV.

Family of the victim tells us his name was Saul Perez. The Perez family is devastated after learning Saul was gunned down.

"It's just crazy. Because I had just talked to him to hi, recently and to find out he was gone forever is just hard,"says Lizeth Perez, the victim's little sister.

While police continue to investigate who did this and why, Lizeth tries to understand who would want to kill her brother, "I don't know why they did it because he wasn't like a mean person. He wasn't aggressive or anything. He liked to have fun. And stuff like that. He was really interactive with people. Or who did it. I didn't even know if he had enemies."

Most of Saul's family is living in Louisville. On the drive to Lexington, the Perez family was hoping the whole thing wasn't true, "I was really anxious to get here to find of out what happened to him. It was also really hard to get here and to think he is not going to be here anymore. That he's gone."
