Even though Campaign 2010 isn't over yet, we're looking ahead to next year's governor's race.
Our exclusive Kentucky poll finds the majority, 56% of likely voters, approve of the job Governor Steve Beshear is doing. 26% gave him thumbs down.
Kentuckians handed the keys to the governor's mansion to Beshear in 2006 after a bumpy ride of scandals with Republican Ernie Fletcher.
With a new #2 on the ticket, Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, Beshear hopes to become a two-term governor.
Our WKYT/Herald-Leader poll of 625 registered voters finds Beshear and Abramson would easily defeat any other ticket.
Compared to Republicans Senator David Williams and Agriculture Secretary Richie Farmer, the Democrats would win, 45% to 30%.
Independents Gatewood Galbraith and Dea Riley trail with just 5%.
But 20 percent remain undecided.
Compared to Republicans Phil Moffett and Mike Harmon, the Beshear-Abramson ticket would score an even wider victory, 43% to 24%.
26% would be undecided in that match up.
