Downtown police chase leads to gas leak in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A possible moped theft led police on a pursuit early Tuesday morning which ended with a broken gas line and a suspect in custody.

Police received a call around 4am Tuesday morning about a possible theft of a moped, but when they when they tried to stop the vehicle involved, a pursuit began.

Police say a man was seen loading up a moped into a white van in a parking garage on Transcript.

Officers spotted the van a short time later on Virginia Avenue, and that’s where the chase started.

The suspect, 24-year-old Zachary Adkins, struck a gas line on De Roode, after leaving his vehicle in gear when he attempted to flee from it.

Police tell us that’s where the foot pursuit began, which ended in a parking lot next to Tolly Ho, after a taser was used, Adkins is now in custody.

Shortly after the arrest police were seen bringing a moped from the apartment building, Adkins was eventually transported to the Fayette County Detention Center and now faces two counts of receiving stolen property, one count of possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, and fleeing and evading.
