Powell Co. 911 helps in N.C. emergency

STANTON, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - It was an unusual call. A poison control center out of Charlotte, N.C. was begging Kentucky emergency responders to help them transport anti-venom.

The call came early Sunday morning to Powell County's 911 Center.

The Carolinas Poison Center needed anti-venom from the Kentucky Reptile Zoo. They told dispatchers a cobra bit a man in Charlotte, and the closest vial of anti-venom was in Kentucky.

"It's amazing to think that we have something like that just sitting in our backyard that can bring so much medicine to people who are in dire need of it around the entire East Coast," explained Powell County's 911 Director Cory Graham.

Graham says his team was happy to help.

"In the nature of this job, crisis management and staying cool under fire is exactly what we're paid to do."
