Powell Co. schools on lockdown due to inmate walk-off

Joshua Sparks walked away from the Powell County Transfer Station while out on a jail work release program.

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Several police agencies are working to find a missing inmate.

Dispatchers in Powell County tell WKYT that 26-year old Joshua Sparks walked away from the transfer station on Highway 15 in Stanton on Monday morning. Sparks was taking part in the work release program when he took off some time between 7:40 and 7:45 a.m..

There is a county-wide search underway involving jail officials, the Powell County Sheriff's office, Clay City Police and Stanton Police. The search is primarily centered around Clay City.

All Powell County schools are on lockdown because of the escape.

Sparks was last seen wearing a maroon hoodie and blue jeans. He is described as being six feet tall, weighing 245 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Sparks was serving time in Powell County for theft by unlawful taking.
