Power crews bracing for storm

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT)- The threat of wintry weather has power crews on standby.

"Of Course, when we hear ice, we make sure we have plenty of linemen available to respond if & when we have reported outages, " explained Nick Comer, who's with East Kentucky Power Cooperatives.

In addition to the pole crews who are on standby, the folks at East Kentucky Power have a room filled with experts watching radars. They are keeping a close eye on everything headed towards the state.

"We have people watching 24 hours a day for outages that pop up. And of course, we watch the weather very closely; the radar to make sure we know where the heaviest weather is going," Comer said.

That's where Comer says pole crews will be stationed, waiting.

"We have service centers in Northern KY, here in Winchester and in Southern KY... Where we have line crews located. So, we watch the radar and try and have people located as best we can where the weather is going to be."
